8 springs, 3 free. The list is short and generous, with a state park bathhouse that's free by treaty, a free town pool, and a Forest Service soak you reach over snow in winter.

Wyoming
Steam drifting off a geothermal pool in Yellowstone. This one is for looking at; the soaking is elsewhere in Wyoming.
Wyoming doesn't have many hot springs, but it shares the ones it has. In Thermopolis, Hot Springs State Park runs the State Bath House, free to the public under the terms of the 1896 treaty that ceded the land, with commercial pools alongside it. Saratoga has the Hobo Pool, a free town soak on the North Platte, two blocks from a resort whose pools are for hotel guests. Granite Hot Springs, south of Jackson in the Bridger-Teton, is a Forest Service pool you drive to in summer and reach over snow in winter. Astoria Hot Springs Park, also near Jackson, reopened as a nonprofit park after decades closed.
That makes Wyoming easy to plan: most springs are open year-round, fees are low or nothing, and the only real seasonal question is how you'll get to Granite in January.
Star Plunge in Thermopolis has been closed since January 14, 2025, over an expired concession. A tentative settlement announced July 31, 2026 should let it reopen under a new operator, but there's no date yet.
The State Bath House's outdoor pool closed for about a month from August 24, 2026 for accessibility work. The indoor pool stays open.
Yellowstone's Boiling River has been closed to swimming since the June 2022 flood, with no reopening date. The park bans soaking in water of purely thermal origin; Polecat Creek is the exception because it's a mixed stream.

The pools here are for hotel guests only, and there's no public day pass. The one way in without a room is a spa treatment, which includes day use of the pools and fitness center. Guests get a 70-foot mineral pool at about 96-98 degrees and teepee-covered soaking pools at 100-112, all heated by the spring. Hours are 7 am to 9 pm, apart from maintenance: the big pool is closed Tuesdays and the teepee pools Wednesdays, each until 5 pm. If you just want a soak, the free Hobo Pool is two blocks away.

Just north of Thermopolis on US 20, this RV park describes its pool as the largest mineral pool in Wyoming, with a bath house and showers, a privacy wall at one end and loungers along the east side. It's set up for campers. The site lists RV, tent and cabin rates (a 30-amp RV site is $35 plus tax for two people) but says nothing about day visitors, water temperature or season. If you're not camping, ask before you count on a soak. If you are, the pool is the reason to pick this park over a plain one.

About 20 minutes south of Jackson, over a red bridge across the Snake River, a nonprofit conservancy runs this soaking park on 95 acres. Four mineral pools sit at 100-104 degrees, with a children's pool at 80-90 and a cold plunge at 48-51; two pools are ADA-accessible. You soak in 105-minute sessions, five a day starting at 9:00 AM, and reservations are strongly recommended because walk-ins get in only if there's room. It's closed Wednesdays. Adults pay $26.25, residents $18.75, and under-2s are free. Book the session first and plan the rest of the day around it.

The family option in Thermopolis: a concession inside Hot Springs State Park with an indoor main pool and waterfall, a year-round slide, a baby pool, hot tubs at 100-105 degrees, a steam room and a cedar sauna. Outside there's a 94-98 degree pool and three canopied hot tubs. It's open seven days a week. Each half has a cleaning day, and the indoor pool shuts after 4 pm on Tuesdays and the outdoor pool after 4 pm on Thursdays, so go early on those days. Admission is $15.50 for ages 5 to 62 and $12.50 for 63 and over.

Wyoming gives this one away. The State Bath House in Hot Springs State Park is free, with an indoor and an outdoor pool of Big Spring water held at 104 degrees. Summer hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday; in winter it closes at 5:30 p.m. The outdoor pool closed on August 24, 2026 for about a month of ADA work, so check it's back before you count on it. Make a day of the park while you're here, since the terraces, a suspension footbridge and a bison herd are all inside it.
Saratoga's town pool costs nothing and never closes: it's free and open 24 hours a day all year, on the west bank of the North Platte behind the municipal swimming pool at the east end of Walnut Street. The main pool runs from about 106 degrees at its coolest to 119 at the hot end, which is hot enough to scald, so test the water before you settle in or use the Not-So-Hot Pool next door, around 100. Swimsuits are required, and alcohol, tobacco, glass and open containers are banned. There's a bath house with showers and restrooms.

Up a forest road off the Hoback Canyon, on Bridger-Teton National Forest land beside Granite Creek Campground, Granite Hot Springs is a soak you have to earn. In summer you can drive in by turning off US 189/191 onto Granite Creek Road and following it about 8 miles. Once the road closes for winter, the only ways in are snowmobile, skis, fat bike or dogsled, which turns a soak into an expedition. It shuts entirely in the shoulder seasons. Check the Bridger-Teton Forest Service page for the current fee, hours and opening dates before you set off.

Read the warnings first. Naegleria fowleri, the brain-eating amoeba, has been found in Huckleberry Hot Springs and in Polecat Creek, so keep your head out of the water. The springs themselves are closed to soaking; only Polecat Creek, a mixed stream warmed by their runoff, is legal. Spring water in the area reaches 160°F and thermal crusts can be thin, so stay on solid ground. The walk is about half a mile from Flagg Ranch with a creek ford, and it's snowbound in winter. The Park Service doesn't post current trail conditions online, so ask a ranger before you set out.

Closed. Star Plunge, the commercial pool complex inside Hot Springs State Park, has been shut since January 14, 2025, when its management agreement expired in the middle of a court fight over the concession. On July 31, 2026 Wyoming State Parks announced a tentative settlement meant to let it reopen under a new long-term concessionaire, but it hasn't named one or set a date. Treat it as closed until the state posts an opening. In the meantime, the free State Bath House and Hellie's Tepee Pools are open in the same park.

Closed. Boiling River, once Yellowstone's best-known river soak near Mammoth Hot Springs, has been shut since the June 2022 flood. The Park Service says swimming there is not possible and gives no reopening date, so don't plan a trip around it. Soaking in the hot springs themselves is prohibited across the park, and thermal water can carry organisms that cause rashes, stomach illness and other infections. The Firehole Swim Area, the park's other river swim, was closed as well. Check the park's swimming page before you count on either.
We last checked every spring here on 19 September 2026, against the page of whoever runs it or manages the land, and that page is linked under each entry. Springs are grouped by what they are rather than ranked, since a resort pool and a creekside rock tub aren't competing for the same afternoon. Where the fee says "See the operator's prices", the price list changes often enough that you're better off reading it there.
