Read this part first. The National Park Service closes this trail every year from May 15 to September 30, and on any day forecast to reach 95 degrees, because heat has killed hikers here. The springs may harbor Naegleria amoebas, so keep your head above water. If that hasn't put you off, it's a very strenuous canyoneering route down Goldstrike Canyon near Hoover Dam to the hot springs and the Colorado River: 5.3 miles round trip, 1,200 feet of elevation change, seven dry falls and fixed ropes. Leave the dog at home. During the closure you can still reach the springs by boat.
